Man Proposes by Hacking Girlfriends Game

This one is pretty creative, wouldn’t have thought of it myself. When Bernire Peng, a Jersey man who makes his living as a computer programmer decided it was time to pop the BIG question to his girlfriend hiding a ring in a bouquet wasn’t going to cut it.

Peng reprogrammed the girlfriend Tammy Li’s favorite game “Bejeweled” to display a ring and a marriage proposal when she reached a certain score.

Bejeweled is a game where you gain points when you swap gems to form vertical and horizontal chains.

The company seems very pleased with Pengs creativity and use of the game so they have offered not only to fly the couple to Seattle where their headquarters is located as a part of their honeymoon but, they are supplying copies of the game to hand out as wedding favors.

“Most video game companies would frown on people manipulating their games,” Garth Chouteau a spokesman for the PopCap

“But it won him a woman. As a bunch of geeks we have to say, ‘Bernie, hats off to you.'”

The reprogramming was a tricky task and took him a month, but Li reached the needed score — and said yes.

The word of the romantic feat last December filtered out after Peng, a financial software programmer, posted details on his blog.

“I thought it was pretty cool, in a nerdy way,” Peng told The Star-Ledger of Newark.

The couple plan to marry over Labor Day weekend.
