Going Green For Earth Day

Being the humanitarian I am *cheese* it wouldn’t be right of me if I didn’t advise you all that Earth Day (April 22nd) is coming up. So in celebration I’m going to give a few tips that not only can keep our earth healthier but can also keep more money in your pocket. These tips don’t have to be used only on Earth Day but everyday!

At the grocery store

  • Many items come in packaging made from petroleum products. Instead, look “for things that have minimal packaging.
  • Buy organic produce. Because it doesn’t use pesticides, it uses less energy.
  • Bring your own bag to the store, you can use it over and over and over. An estimated 14 million trees a year have to be cut down to make 10 billion paper bags.

At Home

  • Use toilet paper, paper towels and tissues made of recycled paper.
  • Eliminate “phantom power”. If any charger or appliance is left in an outlet, it continues to use power—even if it’s turned off.
  • Use one cup all day; this helps them cut down on dirty dishes and reduces the number of times they need to run the dishwasher each week

On the Road

  • Leave your receipts from your ATM transactions in the machine, 8 billion ATM transactions every year are one of the biggest sources of litter on the planet.
  • Take a travel mug to Starbucks for your coffee.
  • Use a professional car wash, these business use recycled water and soapy run-off doesn’t end up in rivers and streams.
